Building the UK EV Supply Chain
In the global shift toward electrification, having a resilient and capable domestic supply chain is no longer optional, it is essential. For OEMs, Tier 1s, and system integrators, proximity to key components, speed of iteration, and technical partnership matter as much as raw performance. At iNetic Traction, with deep roots in Andover, we believe the UK can and should host the next generation of electric motor and drivetrain manufacturing.
From Andover Roots to Electric Ambitions
Our story begins in Andover in 1997, where iNetic evolved from a stator-winding specialist into a full-spectrum electric motor and drivetrain design house. Over the years, through strategic mergers and internal growth, we expanded our technical scope: from winding stators to integrated drive units (EDUs) and turnkey motion systems.
We remain headquartered in Andover, retaining the local engineering heritage while scaling up to meet global challenges.
That lineage gives us two advantages:
- Heritage in precision engineering – we understand electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical subtleties from the ground up.
- Continuity and identity – our Andover base isn’t just a location, it’s an anchor for investment, recruitment, and supply-chain clustering.

Manufacturing & Capabilities at Andover
One reason we can confidently talk about scaling a UK supply chain is that we have built robust capabilities around motors, drives, and modules for a range of customers and different applications. In Andover we have delivered:
- Custom electric motor design (axial, radial, high-speed, high torque, stepper motors)
- Off-the-shelf motor ranges (e.g. iEV, rEV, sEV)
- Turnkey EDUs / integrated drive solutions combining motor + inverter + gearbox such as rDA and rEA.
- Precision machining, assembly & test of components, modules, and full machines
- Inverter / motor controller development
- Rapid prototyping, validation, and test benches supporting iteration inside our facility
- After-sales support, repair, calibration and servicing capabilities
Because we design with manufacturing in mind, each product is optimized not just for performance but for scalable production and cost control.

Supporting the SMMT & UK Supply Chain Initiatives
We are proud supporters of the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders) and the UK Automotive Council, we actively back initiatives that strengthen the UK motor, inverter, and drivetrain supply ecosystem. By aligning our work with both SMMT’s supply chain programmes and the broader goals of the Automotive Council, we aim to be a contributor, not just a participant, in scaling British electrification.
We believe that supporting consortia, infrastructure projects, and shared development work is critical. The future isn’t about companies working in isolation, but about forming clusters of competence: component suppliers, tooling specialists, testing houses, and integrators working in tight proximity.
Why you Should Care About Having UK Partners
When an companies works with a UK-based partner such as iNetic, they get:
- Shorter lead times & agile iteration: changes don’t require overseas freight or weeks of delay
- Closer co-engineering: architecture, thermal design, control tuning, all more accessible in person
- Lower logistics and tariff risk: fewer cross-border complexities, more predictability
- Sustainability advantages: shorter supply chains, traceable sourcing, carbon footprint control
- Greater resilience: local redundancy to global disruption
These advantages matter especially as vehicle programs shorten, product lifecycles tighten, and electrification spreads to new vehicle classes (off-highway, marine, industrial).

A Vision for UK-First Electric Motor Sovereignty
Our mission is clear: we want the UK to host not just assembly, but deep, high-value intellectual and manufacturing capability in electric motors and drivetrains. We’re not just designing – we’re making it here in the UK. We’re not just supporting – we’re advocating for clusters, policies, and partnerships that raise the bar for all suppliers.
We invite OEMs, Tier 1s, and systems integrators to explore working with iNetic. Let us show how a UK motor partner, grounded in UK expertise, can help you de-risk, accelerate, and localise your electrification programmes.
